Random Groups #1

Fresh for your mundane Monday’s is our new Random Groups feature. First up to bat we have the Harlem collective known as Alphabet Soup. Originally dropping in 1991, this Native Tongues inspired, sample heavy offering was a breath of fresh air at the time. As the group quickly faded into obscurity it made their self-titled EP one of the more memorable one-hit-wonders. The group consisted of Melkuan, Brother Love, Kiambu, Nubian and Deflon and to our knowledge none of these talents ever resurfaced. Wherever they are, listening to ‘Uncle Sam’ they might be quite pleased with the election of Obama though. The EP was reissued in Japan last year but the original US pressing on Akirfa Recordings is now worth some money if you can find it.

Here are the tracks in all their glory and feel free to put forward your nomination for our next Random Group.

Are CPO random/obscure enough for a future feature?

To Hell And Black is such a dope album.

Are Trends Of Culture obscure enough? They were big upped a couple weeks ago by your boy Joaquin Phoenix so maybe….maybe not.

Here are a few of my favorites:
FamLay (or something like that) had a good song “Runs in the family.”
    Zhiggee (are they random?)
    Wascalz
    Future Sound
And the most random group of all time….Yomo and Maulkie

We can definitely find out about Witchdoctor and pals – we’ve got signed records from Dude. No-one beats our Timberwolfe Records game. Is the ‘Soul Man’ tune the Izzy Ice and DJ Majesty one? We got that too – the one to cop is the promo with the random classic ‘Funky Freestyle’ on the flip.
