Old School, New School, No School Rules
Perhaps it’s because he didn’t end his career in a blaze of glory that Douglas E. Freshingtons (to give him his government name) isn’t given the due he deserves. But here at the FL, we know that Doug will always keep risin’. From his early beatbox days – days that gave us truly landmark bangers like ‘The Original Human Beat Box’, ‘Just Having Fun’ and the PC Crew’s ‘Dougee Fresh Vs. The Beat Box’ – through to his hit-making years and beyond, we’ve always dug Doug.
There are plenty of collectible joints in the discography – ‘Just Having Fun’ on Sound Makers is one that doesn’t crop up very often – but today we’re sharing with you one that really troubled us. Hank Shocklee and the Bomb Squad collaborated with Doug E. Fresh a couple of times – their remix of ‘Spirit’ is an overlooked gem – but we never realised that Shocklee produced the classic ‘Keep Risin’ to the Top’ either. Or that he remixed it as well on this hen’s teeth of a 12″. We’re currently sharing one copy between the crew, so if you have one, hit us on the beeper. Oh, and our very own Barrie Bee would like to say ‘what up?’ to Barry Bee.

The record label says Reality but the knitwear is pure fantasy.
Dope song. Also dope is the choice of the Fila fly font on the photo.
…..I thought Doug was a Bally man.
I know where there’s three copies for sale, varying conditions/prices.
