R.I.P. Rammelzee

Sadly another fallen soldier, this time rhymer and artist Rammelzee passed a couple of days ago. An established Graf artist, he finally got his deserved recognition via the legendary hip-hop cult movie Style Wars which also featured the track ‘Beat Bop’. It’s argued (convincingly) he fathered Ad Rock and B-Real’s nasal rap styles.  The original pressing of ‘Beat Bop’ was produced by Jean Michel Basquiat who also designed the famed cover art and fetches thousands due to it’s scarcity. It was repressed on Profile and more recently with a limited edition poster. Good luck in finding any copies after this sad news.

Check out a great post here on Style Wars including the unofficial O.S.T.

so sad. RIP to the most legendary rammelzee, truly an original from the music to his art as halfmonk says. I’ve always had Beat Bop as my no.1 rap record ever and I never tire of playing it from start to finish, just a complete masterpiece of beats of rhymes. I have the profile copies above, but will prob never own that tartown one, but whatever pressing it’s just the most incredible piece of music.

RIP Rammellzee. There was nothing close to him, the Bi-Conicals album must rate as the strangest albums I own which I can actually listen to and enjoy.

cant front on beat bop, its an absolute classic record, and probably one of the only super rare records that’s truly justified for its price as its such a good track. RIP

R.I.P Rammellzee. You amongt others inspired me to start drawing Graffiti when I saw some of your artworks at the museum of modern art – Louisiana in Humlebæk Denmark. Your style is truly unique and a great inspiration for many a writer :-) Respect – Nikolaj Ekelund
