R.I.P. The Mack Of Rap (Flavor Unit’s Markey Fresh)

Damn, pour some out for another fallen soldier. The second Flavor Unit affiliate to pass in 6 months. Check Unkut’s interview with him here. Also read the comments if you get chance where a mini-battle between him and Lord Alibaski kicks off. Alibaski and Fresh both posted comments on Fat Lace too. Sad loss.

Peace everybody, it’s MC STARCHILD & MC LIL’ STAR (aka Tamerlane & Kaisem: THE TOGETHER BROTHERS) on the check in for our fallen comrad. We go way back as friends, neighbors, and music biz associates in Irvington, NJ. Although we did many free style sessions together and wrote a couple of songs, it was in the 45King’s basement that we were able to put it all down on tape as the ‘Playboys’, the ‘Educated Two’, or the ‘Disco Force’ (soon available on mp3). And as time passed, my brother & I decided to form our own record company (BEYROCK RECORDS) and recorded our first single entitled, ‘Get Smart on the Crack’ as the TOGETHER BROTHERS. It was DJ Mark 45King that made it possible for us to rehearse live through his sound system while he blessed the turntables with break beats galore. Often times he didn’t eat because he had to “get some more equipment.” Although his time, talent, and efforts have proven to be quite lucrative, he never asked us for a dime!
So, on behalf of DJ Mark 45King, a fellow pioneer & good friend, I would like everyone to know that he is and has always been cool with us. Again, we appreciate, love, and respect him for the endless generosity he showed to us as aspiring entrepreneurs back then!

FYI: This all happened before the Flavor Unit, Queen Latifah, and before Ed Lover & Dr. Dre (‘YO MTV Raps!) first visited his infamous basement in Vailsburg, NJ, (aka, Hooterville). To Mark Jones, (aka, Shakim, Money Mark, Markey Fresh) may you rest in peace my brotha’… we will remember the good times.

    HOP HOP FANS:
if you think DJ Mark 45King deserves to be recognized & properly awarded for his contribution to the culture, hit me back.

    Sincerely,
    MC STARCHILD

forgot to say R.I.P. too. Never had that 12″ back in the day, but managed to find a copy for cheap (thank god it’s not some ‘random’ rap rarity and just a good record without the silly price attached) , after fat lace put the audio up a few weeks back. Nice one fatlace.

Well, that’s certainly an interesting alternative take on Markey’s passing, cheers for that.
