The Arr-Oh-Ex-Ay-En-En-Ee

Since we last yelled at you about Roxanne battle records, some more have come to light. Yup, at least 23 years since anyone last cared, we’re still digging them up. Our man Werner (whose excellent blog just upped a dope interview with Cozmo D from Newcleus) is an aficionado of the Roxanne wars with a few jawns we don’t have, and news that there might even be ones he doesn’t have but are rumoured have crushed us and ensured we spend future years poring eBay for these damn things.

This time, we’ve got one that is a definite and forceful entry in the war, and one that’s just a cash-in. Philadelphia’s Korner Boyz – Grand Tone and Parry Pee – dropped  the 7 minute plus ‘Saga of Roxanne’ on Renaissance Records in 1985. It’s one of the rawest entries of all, helped in no small part by one Jazzy Jeff on the scratch.

By contrast, ‘Mix Trix 4 – Roxanne Can You Feel it’  is just a cut-up record (on, fittingly, Kut-Up Records) with a smattering of Roxanne samples thrown in for good measure. We ummed and aahed about allowing it in but it made the final cut.
