Westwood Wednesdays #17

We’re giving you value for your horrifically devalued pounds this week with both a classic Westwood radio show and a vintage Zulu Message column. On this week’s show we go back to October 1996 with DJ Riz of the Crooklyn Clan on the turntables and they’re even joined by the ghost of Aaliyah. That reminds us of a story R.A. The Rugged Man told Fat Lace about the time both he and Aaliyah were recording at Jive’s Battery Studio’s in Manhattan. Even though they were stable mates, under no circumstances was R.A. allowed to meet Aaliyah. Apparently she had a penchant for massive, bearded, caucasian sexual deviants. Who knows the damage the fragile little songstress could do to that hulk-like lyricist.

Anyway, enjoy the show and we plucked out Tim’s top choice pick from this month’s Zulu Message, a Fat Lace fave and an incredible track by Grandmaster Melle Mel and The Furious Five called ‘The Truth’ from their sef-titled LP from back in 1984. The same year George Orwell wrote that book, or something, coincidence huh? The column, as ever, makes for a fascinating read. So read it or never ever complain that we talk too much about Weezy and Yeezy and oh yeah, Zizzi. Gotta love their pasta.

Yeah, love this stuff fatlace. Can’t listen until tonite, but hoping that’s the Riz mix where he drops Sucker MC’s beat over Sade ‘Smooth Operator’, I taped it off westwood around that time, but the tape cut off half way through the mix and been after the whole thing for ages. If it’s not can’t wait to hear it anyway.
