Westwood Wednesdays #9

As Westwood’s been on a roll of late (check his interview with Michael Eavis at Glastonbury here), we’ve got an overdue Westwood Wednesday for you. While Chardonnay sipping middle England possibly see Tim as a buffoon long past his sell by date, readers of Fat Lace know full well he’s a national treasure. When Westwood quits, we all may as well all call it a day. So let’s hope he’s still dropping bombs, making inappropriate comments about girl’s titties and championing whatever is hot at the moment, forever. That’s what he does best and this weeks’ show is no exception. Near on twenty years ago Westwood was dropping Bizzie Boys next to P.E. and Three Times Dope. Who the fuck else on this planet can honestly say they repped those kind of records and still do it to this day at the highest level?

So onto this week’s show. There’s a vintage commercial for Hip-Hop Connection which is a first for Westwood Wednesday. If anyone can name the rappers behind the ad get a brucie bonus, they even rap over Friend & Lover ‘Reach Out Of The Darkness, see below. On this week’s gig guide check out Bop Gun at Churchills Nightclub opposite the town hall in Chatham with DJ Good Trousers. If you can’t make that, next Saturday in Willesden there’s a jam featuring the crews Gatecrash, The London Rhyme Syndicate and the She Rockers. On the music tip, Three Times Dope drop some Funky Dividends. As Tim quite rightly points out it’s produced by Lawrence Goodman and those brothers are “slamming some lyrics”. Funny, a couple of their Illadelphian peers are now slamming some bars, literally.

This week’s Rap Report:

10. Tuff City Squad – Breakmania

9. Silver Bullet – Bring Forth The Guillotine

8. Supreme DJ Nyborn (or Newborn as Tim puts it)- Rhymes From A Swift Mind

7. III Most Wanted – Calm Down

6. Err, the tape goes silent at this point. But hey, we’re not disputing his selection thus far.

Enjoy.

Ah, this very show was on my 16th birthday. Obviously I didn’t hear it because I lived in Leeds and was listening to John Peel play one hip-hop track every 3 hours on medium wave. However, all pro-Westwood sentiments echoed. Cheap shots about accent and posturing negated – who the fuck else done did it like Tim?

Yeah, didn’t you hear Tim’s birthday shout out to S.C.A.M. The Solo Prophet, just before the Al B Sure joint
