    play it backwards, pitch it to plus 20, add some horns and i think youll find its the theme tune from cagney and lacey actually

    the kick comes from biz markiedoing a beat box sped up, then slowed down, then time stretched and put into an SP1200 then into an MPC by Q-Tips mum.

    Actually I quite like that Lil Wayne joint on fast, can imagine it with the 2 Live Crew rapping on it, would be a great come back for the lads.

    as hip-hop gradually got synthed out I used to hear the riffs and assume producers’d progressed into inventing them, but it seems like even the most basic 3 note riffs are still based on samples.
