White Rap Pass Granted #2: Ill Bill & Necro
We thought we’d kill two proverbial birds with one stone when issuing our latest cracker rap pass. There’s no sibling rivalry when it comes to these real life brothers, they’re well and truly on the same team. With die hard fans spanning the globe these two have consistently churned out some of the grimiest hip-hop to date. Both made independent debuts well over ten years ago and to a degree went in different directions. Bill and his crew Non Phixion flirted with a major deal in the early days but when the deal went sour they went back underground on their own label Uncle Howie and resurfaced with a handful of revered classics under their belt. We’ve chosen his solo Alchemist produced banger as our choice cut. His brother Necro has always repped his own Psycho + Logical Record label and can also be credited as a director and producer. Check for his production on Missin Linx’s ‘What It Is’ to see just how he gets down on the boards. His early self-titled EP was one of the highlights of the late 90′s independent hip-hop output although some of the tracks made us question his sanity, see him above about to set upon ‘STD’. Looks like she may lose some teeth and he don’t look like much of a dentist. We picked out a track from one of his early 12′s for nostalgic reasons. Consider this white rap pass well and truly granted. Salute.

REVOKED as solo artists, but granted for the Non Phixion shit, which is where Necro shines on beats and Ill Bill as part of the crew, but their solo shit hasleft me a bit cold. Necros first 2 vinyls are OK, apart from that it’s gotta be a revoke you punks.

Just because rappers aren’t horrible, doesn’t mean they actually add anything. These guys remind me of a lot of dudes I went to high school with: trying too hard all day to be weird and/or shocking. Shock value is easy. Is that all you have to offer?
I admit to buying that very Necro 12″ when it came out. In fact, it may still be lurking in the crates somewhere, but it started to wear on me quickly after I bought it. I can only assume that Nerco fans all go to ICP concerts even if they don’t openly admit it.
Plus, look at how much these guys inspired miserable white rappers like…Jedi Mind Tricks.

Having never heard any Necro or Ill Bill before I listened to these two tunes anticipating something pretty good. How wrong I was.
Ill Bills ‘How to kill a cop’ is entertaining, Necro is just one over-long gimmick. Having said that, hearing him destroy Wacko over ‘Billy jean’ is pretty funny.
