oh, you got the original funnkenstein 12 before cash money got credited on the label, big up, I got one of them origianl ones recently for my mate, I have the one with his name on, dope 12 indeed. Cash Money is a total legend, I had the pleasure of losing at pool to him in Newcastle student uni club a few years back, before a jam where he tore it up on the 1′s and 2′s…is he using digital now or vinyl still? Got a signed ‘play it cool’ too! I talked to him bout Three Times Dope, my personal philly faves. And don’t forget DJ Tod 1 (RIP).

All incredible tracks – particularly Freeway!

Legend. Between him and Kid Capri for my fav’ dj.

It wasn’t like i was expecting him to pick Suckas by Philly’s Most Wanted or Fall Back by Peedi etc or Friday Night by Young Gunz but there are a few Philly classics (Brand New Funk, The Truth, Take Your Radio, Juice Crew Dis) i’d have over that Roots tracks, including at least 10 other Roots tracks but at least he didn’t pick anything by Cassidy.

What has Cassidy done to you Brian? Do you want to talk about it?

  5. Reply Fred Fence April 20, 2008 15:54 pm

I had the pleasure of loosing at pool to cash money in Newcastle b4 a jam a few years ago and also talking to him about my fave philly crew, Three Times Dope and if he ever sees them around. Also, don’t 4get DJ Tod 1 (RIP). I also got that funnkenstein record, but the latter press which credits cash money, but I got that original one for a mate recently…dope 12″.

B-Boy stance and I’m a Hustler are dope Hip Hop, even Lord Finesse rates Cassidy as one of his new school faves.

  7. Reply Fred Fence April 20, 2008 15:56 pm

Also that tune with Raekwon is sick and mad slept on in my opinion.

  8. Reply Fred Fence April 20, 2008 15:58 pm

Does anyone else remember what a buzz they got when they bought the play it cool/ugly people 12″? MASSSSSIVE!

  9. Reply brian beck from wisconsin April 20, 2008 16:08 pm

B Boy Stance and I’m A Hustla are both sick beats but Cassidy is just so boring. His lyrics are good but his stiff monotonous voice and delivery make MF Grimm sound like Bizzie Bone.

A friend of mine loves Cassidy and he drives me wild playing Cassidy all the time in his car and arguing how Cassidy is better than all off State Prop combined because he beat Freeway is that bottle.

    in that battle * even

  11. Reply salvador darlo April 20, 2008 16:43 pm

Ha ha – I’m with you man. Cassidy is pretty dull – and in no way shape or form better than State Prop or any R.O.C related emcee – not even Bleek.

  12. Reply brian beck from wisconsin April 20, 2008 16:49 pm

I kinda like Bleek. M.A.D.E is a slept on album and he ripped Hey Papi harder than Jay and Just Fire (The Roc) harder than Cam + Beans.

And don’t forget the Ceereeus BDP Remix. That and/or Juice Crew Dis would have been nice.

I Ain’t Into That was by the Rappin’ Reverend.

  15. Reply Fred Fence April 21, 2008 15:03 pm

I AINT INTO THAT!!!! THE RAPPIN REVEREND….LOVE THAT SHIT!!! The sleeve has the lyrics on too! Tuuuuuuune!

    Steady B was the illest.

Cash Money is super duper. I had the pleasure of losing at mah jongg to him at the Garrick back in ’04, before a jam where he wrecked the joint on the wheels of steel. Andrew Marr and Germaine Greer were there and both agreed that son had the skills to pay the bills.

  17. Reply jrock April 21, 2008 21:49 pm

three times dope -no words remix & Larry larr don’t sleep on classic philly shit

  18. Reply Fred Fence April 22, 2008 09:22 am

3xD Greatest Man Alive, From The Giddy Up, Original Stylin, but IncreaseDa Peace was always a fave and the woody wood DJ track with the Mass Production ‘people get up…’ sample.

  20. Reply akuma170 April 22, 2008 14:38 pm

Reg Railing – Classic shit homes. I once had the pleasure of almost beating Dice Raw at Scrabble.

Cash Money is the digiddy doppediest deejay of all timiest.

Other Philly ish I’d like to hear though?

That mix Jazzy Jeff did of that Champion vol 2 compilation back in 87-88(Whiz Kid was on the other side, and didn’t have a prayer) – anyone have an MP3?
Everything off the first 3 LPs from Steady B – so ill, so fat, so incarcerated, and Tat Money often gets left out of the loop of DJ Royalty but had skills for miles…
Listen to “Get Physical” lately? Beat is crazy. Classic Marley Marl dusty drums. Wish it was a single so there’d be a dub..

  25. Reply shamarone June 12, 2008 18:35 pm

omg, i saw tat-money spin at the spectrum in the philly vs. ny battle back in the mid to late 80′s. i think it was cutmaster DC he went up against. he straight annihilated the brotha. i was then i realized that he was basically jazzy jeff, cash money level. i had no idea. anybody here remember a place in philly called the “Funk o Mart”. i used to take the bus over from jersey to go buy break beat records there. you could buy a set of 1200′s there. flight cases. stanton needles. even a roland 909 (ny was the 808, but the 909 was a key intrument in the philly sound. they had everything.

Yeah Funkomart on Market ST. was definetly the spot Shamarone!! I walked from North Philly to Center City to get my fix!! Would spend my lunch money on a hip hop record but they were the underground sound 4real!! DJ Cash Money yeah a pretty humble guy in all this but I need to say many hip hop historians especially of the Philly variety care where the tranformer was invented and who did it!! I won’t go into that I can only say that my hopes is that one day Philly cats get their props 4 sure!!! And oh yes that 909 used to knock P.S.K would tear your damn wall down!!
