Classic Cracker Radio: 3rd Bass

Fat Lace is the best hip-hop site in the world but you know that by now. You also know we hate them crackers. We even hate the ones we like if that makes sense. Now we really like these guys, we prefer the black dude, but the other two are aight, for crackers. So with this post we’re gonna kill two crackers with one stone. First up we’ve got some more classic radio thanks to the London Kiss FM’s archives from back in ’89. That’s our vintage radio quota box ticked for this week. Secondly, we’re gonna grant another white rap pass to 3rd Bass. How could we not? These Def Jam artists gave us the Gas Face, Steppin To The A.M., The Cactus, Nasty Nas, The White Cracker Show and M.C. Serch even looks a bit black with that high top fade. They even had a black DJ ’cause the DJ is the back bone of any rap group and crackers ain’t got an ounce of rhythm. So where are they now? We know Richie Rich produced ‘I’m Kurious’ for Kurious Jorge but that’s all we know. Serch is a radio and TV host but what’s The Prime Minister Pete Nice doing with himself? Last we heard he collects Top Trumps or basketball cards, or something. Any clues?

So say word to the third and check out their wordz of wizdom courtesy of London’s premier jocks of the time Max n Dave.

DJ Scratch? You mean Richie Rich, don’t you?

And yes, 3rd Bass were the illest.

I thought I read somewhere that Pete was managing a baseball team or something like that?

Ant to the Onio, that’s what happens when we let crackers write posts for us at 4am. We flipped that ish. Sorry.

I’ m pretty sure Pete Nice owns a baseball memorabilia museum nowadays.

3rd Base definately deserve a pass off Product Of The Environment alone but the fact they helped put the C.M fam on and Serch a&r-ed Illmatic and Word..Life means they get a lifetime pass.

Plus the story about Hammer putting the hit out on them when they were out in L.A after they dissed him is a top 5 hip hop anecdote of all time.

Thank you for distributing aforementioned passes to these, I didn’t want to say anything or come across as uncool for suggesting it. The Cactus is the illest cracker album of all time but nobody ever mentions Sons of 3rd Bass, the greatest track in any genre of music ever/

Product of the enviroment (Marley Marl mix) and watching 3rd Bass at Manchester Apollo in 1990 where Richie Rich scratched the ‘MY….’ from Run DMC’S ‘Run’s House’ and MC Serch at Southport Weekender just after Subroc from KMD died, where he threatened to ‘stomp’ anyone in the audiance if they didn’t observe some silence – great memories!

I saw them at the old T&C club (as they mention a few seconds in) and there was another pair of crackers opening up for them.
I think they were called Subsonic 2. The main guy was very geeky-looking and very ‘wordy’. But I like that in a rapper. Audi 5000.

Product of the Environment remix was dopeness.
Pete Nash is currently a baseball historian who has written a few books.
Serch is currently hosting Ego Trip’s Miss Rap Supreme (and previously The White Rapper Show).
I’ve heard some good tales about Serch being the sole Caucasian up in the LQ, and he was there week after week. Plus, dude played a role in bringing Nas and MF Doom to the world.
Prime Minister’s smoothed out fashion sense is the illest.
Props to Lord Scotch, the real “white rapper” who put the pieces in place-and
even got his ryhmes stolen by Pete. ” Gettin numb like a Derelict on scotch
I’m Dick Lewis, cause baby I’m watchin you”
    Heads know the deal.

Also, didn’t Pete and not Rich produce ‘I’m Kurious’ for Kurious Jorge?

Richie Rich turned into an RnB singer didn’t he? We had our own Richie Rich anyway, in the UK, and that’s why he became Daddy Rich coz our UK one had no kids at that point in time, that’s how they knew who was who if they were playing the same jam.

The guy outta subsonic 2 leter went on to be one half of the proclaimers who did ‘letter from america’ he moved the NY thinking he’d be the male monie luv and marry a native tongue, but it didn’t work out.

Pete Nice was real underrated IMO , His solo LP with richie rich was dope, plus had the beatnuts production. I could have lived with out serch though, bad wigger & didn’t do much for white guys into hip-hop, poor role model. Pete on the other hand i really respected.

U CAN SAY WOTEVER U LIKE ABOUT SERCH BUT HE WAS THE EXECUTIVE PRODUCER BEHIND CLASSIC ALBUMS SUCH AS ‘ILLMATIC’ BY NAS & ‘WORD UP’ BY OC SO IN MY OPINION HE’S DESERVES A PAT ON THE BACK…

white rappers who have lyrical and technical skills always get dissed for lookin real ugly, or tryin too hard… i don’t have to name them, u just know. it’s unfair, but true.
