Nasty Nas does a U-Turn
In a bizarre about-face, Nas told Fat Lace (honest) he’s decided to change the title of his controversial album out of respect for the artists who released albums with similarly contentious artwork before him. “I mean O.D.B. passed, dude from K.M.D. died in an accident, rest his soul and Eazy E caught a nasty case of Chickenpox, or something, they’ all cursed”. So is Nas just scared or does he think using the ‘N bomb’ on his album will genuinely put his life in danger? “I’m scared son, they were all in a group, I’m a solo artist, I got no chance”. So why Nugget? “Nugget for me symbolises the struggle the black man goes through every day. It also symbolises chicken. I love chicken. Kelis cooks a mean Sunday roast. This album is dedicated to her. It’s also the name of our pet hamster. It’s very cute but a bugger to catch if you let it out of the cage.” We asked Nas if the real reasons were because O.D.B., K.M.D. and N.W.A. all used provocative artwork before him and because Nas is made of three letters but isn’t strictly an acronym and he felt left out. “Hmm, not sure, I need to ask Kelis about that”. We probed him further and asked if O.D.B., N.W.A. and K.M.D. hadn’t all de-censored their previous works would he still have used ‘N*gger’ as the title to which he replied “Hmm, not sure, I need to ask Kelis about that”.
