New Hip-Hop Connection
New HHC out Feb 5th profiles Death Row Records, again. Someone’s obviously trying to rinse the back catalogue. Definitely worth picking up for the Gangsta Rapper feature which quite rightly includes the O.G.’s Schoolly D and Just-Ice. “Yes, for he is the hip-hop gangster”.

Has Suge been leaning on the HHC staff to do a cover for Death Row? Is anyone really interested in this label anymore?
Not me. Gangsta rap is now about as gay as it gets. Young ‘uns these days won’t be told about the pioneers, it all reminds me of my dad preaching the Beatles and me not listening to him, but 15 years down the line I found them for myself.
Working in a record shop I can tell you there’s still a fair constituency of boys who can’t talk to their girlfriends very openly and still buy nothing but old Death Row shit. I have conversations with them about how dope an RBX album would have been but if they talk about women or how many walls they punched this week or how MAAD they get I have to start talking about Joanna Newsome or something.
Is that a Schoolly D and Justice interview?
That Web Heads piece in the last HHC was excellent.
Death Row/gangsta-rap pieces are always a good read and i’ll take pieces on Ice T, Schoolly D and Geto Boys over interviews with UK rappers, interviews with Saigon complaining about ringtone rap and producers talking about what software they uses all day, every day.
I’m waiting for a HHC piece of Ca$h Money Records, personally. The Williams brothers, the murder facts, the murder rumours, the success, the excess, the heroin addictions, the money squabbles, the fall-outs, the rise of Wayne, the creepy relationship between Baby and Wayne, the painkiller addictions and the inevitable fall of Wayne since it’s looking like he’s burnt out and The Carter 3 will be a piece of shit.
It’s a great story.

It’s England’s version of middle America!
feb the 5th, I can’t wait that long for another e-bay lunacy and james mcnally’s ancient britain or whatver it’s called, that’s worth the 3.50 alone, fuck all the death row coverage, more UK Hip Hop coverage please! And bring back bite-back, give the readers a say again, and some proper hiphop honeys who aren’t airbrushed beyond reality!
I say bring back “Connections” so that the incarcerated youth of England can get pornmail from Dutch girl-gangsters into “2Pac, Bloods N Crips and Skeelo”. If you dudes don’t start reprinting old “Connections” on here I’ll do it on my blog. Best shit evar!
