Crap Graf #6
Hip-Hop Winos by Demon Booze.
Demon Booze is not your average writer. He was the first, before any of those ponces in Wild Style, to make the move from the train yard to the gallery. Why? A better quality of drink. Over the years, he went from a painter of incredible versatility who fused new colours into mind-bending pieces, into an ultra-simplistic riffer on the same theme. With gout. Many have accused him of becoming an establishment lackey and perhaps they have a point. This piece, the 4021st in a row to use the words ‘Wine For Me’, was commissioned by The Earl Of Westminster for his new wine cellar, and broke the previous price record for a graffiti commission – £85. Whilst Futura and Phase Two sit around drinking Jacob’s Creek and Blossom Hill, Booze reads Robert Parker’s ‘The Wine Advocate’, to which he has a subscription. Snobby graf critics may say he’s lost his edge, but there is little to criticise in the bold simplicity of this piece. Or in the case of Bordeaux he recently sent us…
