Shelved Albums #1: I.G.T.

IGT

Some groups have the potential to make classic albums but get shelved right before impact leaving avid fans with furrowed brows, perplexed at the ‘no show’. Luckily the intraweb has put an end to that and now anyone can freely cop unreleased albums like ‘First Dead Indian’ by Audio Two (if you need us to post it just holla by email). So think back to 2001 and a group called I.G.T. who dropped a couple of promising 12′s on Loud. With the lure of Alchemist and Large Professor beats this was a project dreams are made of but whatever happened to it? We asked an ex-Loud Records source for the scoop.

Fat Lace: So who were I.G.T.?

ELRS: I.G.T. stood for Ill Gotten Team. They were from Long Island.

F.L.: What happened to the album?

ELRS: They were signed by Schott Free, the legendary A&R who brought groups like Mobb Deep to Loud. He largely had a different view of how they should sound. During the making of the album group member Cle Clepto unfortunately went to jail and his only salvageable vocals from their demos were used as interludes. As the album was being finished up, Loud Records was nearing the end of its lifespan and there was a lot of pressure to deliver hit records from Sony.

F.L.: But Loud had hits with underground groups like M.O.P. back then without really knowing how successful they would be.

ELRS: Yeah but the album was made in the vein of classic Loud albums and Schott’s influence meant that the album was largely void of a single for the changing commercial times. The group felt that they had other strong tracks but they were blocked from putting them on the album because they didn’t fit the vibe of the album.

F.L.: So what was the album supposed to be called?

ELRS: Originally ‘The Alpha & The Omega’. So a great album that featured production by Large Professor, Alchemist, Sean Cane, Mahogany, Buckwild, EZ Elpee and group member Belly White never saw the light of day.

F.L.: So where are they now?

ELRS: Belly White known as Crack Vial is a producer and MC based between Long Island and Atlanta. Lagato a.k.a. L-Shine moves between Long Island and Alabama and Cle Clepto is now free.
