R.I.P. Pimp C
“My name is Pimp C bitch, I’m from the Sooooouth!”
As this is written, we have no cause of death, no real official statements, no real rumours – nothing. What we have instead is just another death. We’re not gonna speculate – instead we’re gonna celebrate. Pimp C will now go down in history with the other late greats, but one whose props were only ever begrudgingly given, unless you lived below the Mason-Dixon – or were one of the fans hooked on the power and unique feel of UGK’s music. Sweet James Jones broke it down in basic terms from the day he picked up the mic, to this year’s epic and phenomenal comeback – and never better than on ‘Quit Hatin’ The South’. One of the most sampled voices in modern rap history, he was the Slick Rick or Rakim to the Houston hook-seekers and this is all without getting the true props he deserved for his ridiculously timeless production skills. Pull any record out from their catalogue now – bump that shit and feel the heart of ‘country rap’ at it’s finest. Truly untestable. ‘Free Pimp C’ feels a lifetime ago now – and Bun B is once again carrying the torch for his partner – this time forever.
Spice 1 – pull through please – we’re tired of reading and writing these damn things.

R.I.P. Pimp C…anyone else heard a UGK record called ‘Country Star’, don’t know if that’s regarded as a good UGK record or not, but I like it, great synth bassline. . .Pourin Up was heavy too…that was quick obituary Fatlace!

The bonus DVD from Underground Kingz has some nice interviews with the Pimp and his old high school teachers. It gives a more human perspective to the man and touches on his musical ability, evident in every damn song he made. One of UGK’s best tracks is ‘Wood Wheel’, track 13 from Dirty Money by the way, seek it out. RIP Sweet James Jones

It pains me to say that Spice 1 passed away during surgery to remove bullet fragments from his chest. Two legends no longer living. RIP to two of the Bay and Texas’s greatest

One Day is an incredibly appropriate way to mourn his passing.
Having read his eloquent plea to stop glamourising incarceration, and saying he missed his son growing from an eight year old into a teenager whilst he was in jail makes his death seem somehow more tragic than some of the higher profile hip hop deaths – always worse if there’s a young family left behind.

The southern Eazy E, one of the best producers on the mic and Texas’ answer to Nate Dogg before Devin. This sucks. This sucks even more if Spice1 died too.

It’s looking like Spice 1 might be in stable condition… Here’s hoping the report I read was bogus.

Pimp C AKA Sweet James Jones! Need I say more? Some of my peers don’t understand when I say that Pimp C was a legend in this game. Along with Bun-B, they were one of the prime reasons that Southern Rap is as popular as it is now. Bun you are truly a great artist in your own right. Keep Pimps spirit going and no matter what, UGK will still live on!! R.I.P. Pimp C
