Rap Groups We Know Nothing About #1
Here at Fat Lace, we don’t roll with the standard internet way of researching things. For these cats, if it’s not on Google or Wikipedia, it doesn’t exist. No, we do all that, but we’re also down at the library poring over microfiches. We occasionally hire a ‘gumshoe’. We have menĀ in ports on retainers. And despite rocking all of our sources, we still don’t know anything about A.O.K., whose ‘Shack It Up’ 12″ on Profile from 1989 is one of our all-time jammies. The All Out Kings beat you over the head with both sides of this joint, ‘The Signal’ on the flip equally the match of the A. They don’t sound like a fly-by-night crew put together for one 12″, there’s no doubt they’re a fully-formed crew. So, why just the one 12″? Well, we don’t know. Hence the title of this occasional column. All we know is that the two guys credited – M. Lewis and G. Pettiford – didn’t go on to become someone else. And M. Lewis is not our boy Mike Lewis, that’s for sure. Perhaps ‘Rap Groups We Know Nothing About’ is just a synonym for ‘random rap’, but as we’re indulging in grown man talk, we’ll stick with our formulation. If you know anything about these dudes, tell us. Please. In the meanwhile, enjoy…

Think A.O.K might be the same All Out Kings as the late 80s graffiti crew who covered the NY subway system.
A member of this crew being MESH, real name Matthew Lewis. This is the dude’s myspace: http://www.myspace.com/kingmesh
His shit on there sounds nothing like either of the tracks posted up on here though, so maybe I’m completely wrong…
Actualy, he signs off with ‘MC MESH, All Out Kings” at the end of Shack It Up…so I guess thats case closed for M.Lewis.
JimmyC , you just increased the sum total of our rap knowledge. Thanks homie
Word!??..hey thanks for the science.
One piece of wax id never part with. Remember Westwood playing Shack it up but its all about The Signal..brilliant
I remember Westwood playing this tune & mentioning something about them being bike messengers…..???? Chill.
I might be mistaken but I think M.Lewis Martin Lewis who does all that financial money shit on radio 2.
Dope, I had this on tape once (wait a minute did he just say tape?…errrrahhhhhhh) it’s great to hear it again.
Thanks
