Black Thought reveals all…

Fat Lace is back like crack, get used to it. We’re also the leading authority on Hip-Hop news, where do you think Real Talk NY get their shit? Spine Magazine? Holla. The web has been speculating on the authenticity of a new compilation that just dropped featuring a bunch of artists that were big in the 80′s. Everyone from Biz to Kane to Audio Two to Lyte to Chubb Rock. You get the picture. Top Shelf was apparently a very popular recording studio in NYC where all these artists once recorded. What’s the problem you ask? The problem is that it’s too good to be true and cats on the intraweb are speculating that some tracks may have been recorded more recently than 1988, quite possibly in 1989. That would be a travesty, essentially warranting a refund. We sent our SWAT team of journalists to get to the bottom of this matter and Fat Lace can finally reveal the truth after tracking down our man Black Thought from the legendary Roots Crew.

FL: Thought, you decided to come to Fat Lace to reveal the truth behind Top Shelf, why?

BT: Because Fat Lace is the shit, back home, you’re Gods like Rocky is.

FL: Thanks bro, that means a lot. So tell us about Top Shelf.

BT: Well, when people heard ‘Boom’ on Tipping Point they all thought it was me doing impersonations of G Rap and Kane but it wasn’t, it was them. Straight up. I was going to do it but I wasn’t that good at it. I’m a lot better now. So I had to prove that I could actually drop that kind of style and did a whole album of impersonations.

FL: That’s dope, who inspired you to impersonate rappers?

BT: Les Dennis, he’s the shit.

FL: So how did you do MC Lyte?

BT: Just like in that movie the Crying Game, I straight tucked my shit in. It helped get my voice a little higher.

FL: Wow, that’s deep. Well congrats on a classic album and on behalf of several nerds who give a shit, thanks for unravelling a few mysteries for us.
